Brooklyn Country Music Festival (Friday through Sunday) Most folks don’t consider Brooklyn a country music hotbed, but the borough has done pretty well for itself, twangwise, and a slew of homegrown acts — including the Defibulators, the Roulette Sisters and the recently reunited Brooklyn Jugs — will anchor this three-day country-in-the-city extravaganza. Yee-haw! At 8 p.m. on Friday, 7 p.m. on Saturday and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Southpaw, 125 Fifth Avenue, near Sterling Place, Park Slope, Brooklyn , (718) 230-0236, brooklyncountrymusic.com; $15 each night, $30 for a three-day pass. The 7th Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival at Southpaw
September 10-12, 2010
tickets: $15 per day, 3-day passes: $30

Southpaw, 125 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, 11215, 718.230.0236

Alex Battles is a songwriter and a reluctant promoter who started putting on this show in 2004. Over the years, the show has grown from a small affair at the backroom of the recently departed Freddy's into a 3-day blowout at Southpaw. All acts are guaranteed to be local, original, and awesome.

These are not cover bands. This is not the country you hear coming out of Nashville. This is country music like you remember: heartbreaking, footstomping aggregations of four chords and the truth.
